School Compacts

What Is a Family-School Compact?

A Family-School Compact for Achievement is an agreement that families, students and teachers develop together. It explains how families and teachers will work together to make sure all students get the individual support they need to reach and exceed grade level standards.

Jointly Developed with Families

The families at Dayton’s Bluff Elementary helped develop this Compact for Achievement. Schoolwide meetings, DB Connects, are held throughout the year to collect information to update the compact. Families are welcome to contribute comments at any time.

Family-School Compact for Achievement

DAYTON’S BLUFF ELEMENTARY STUDENTS

Dayton’s Bluff students, staff and families developed these ideas about how they can succeed in school and be successful in math and reading. We used the following ideas to make connections between learning at home and school.

  • Talk with my family about what I am learning in math and reading
  • Bring home school notices
  • Attend Family nights and DB Connects
  • Read 30 minutes each night

In the Classroom

In the classroom we will work with students and their families to support students’ success in reading and math.

Some of our key classroom practices include:

  • Small group instruction along with whole group lessons that are targeted according to student needs and grade level state standards
  • Collaboration with special education and El support
  • Academic support services in reading and math
  • Provide families with updated information on their student’s progress
  • Provide families with tools for practicing vocabulary, reading, and math skills

At Home

Dayton’s Bluff families joined staff to develop ideas about how families can support student’s success in reading and math.

Examples:

  • Use Clever apps at home for both reading and math
  • Practice ST Math
  • Have your student read 30 minutes each night
  • Have your student try to read signs while you are walking, driving or on the bus
  • Attend Family nights
  • Attend Fall/Spring conferences with student
