Family Friendly School Continuous Improvement Plan (SCIP) Summary
Saint Paul Public Schools is dedicated to continuous improvement. A key component of this effort is our School Comprehensive Improvement Plan (SCIP), which outlines our goals and strategies for the year. Here’s a summary of our SCIP.
Building Positive School And District Culture
- Multiple classroom and small group lessons teaching skills in different ways. We will gather feedback from students, staff and families by having conversations, collecting data and utilizing survey results. We will utilize these surveys to guide our decision making for social-emotional opportunities and activities around Dayton's Bluff Achievement Plus Elementary School.
Attendance Goals
We want all students to be in school 90% of the year. This means they need to miss less than 18 days of school.
Literacy Goals
- MCA III - The percentage of grades 3-5 students scoring proficient or higher in reading will increase by at least 5% points.
- FastBridge (FAST) - FastBridge is a set of reading assessments that teachers use to measure student learning. FastBridge scores help teachers to know what kind of teaching each student needs to help them grow, both individually and as part of the whole class.
- The percentage of all K-5th grade students on track will increase by at least 5% points from Spring 2025 to Spring 2026. Students who have scores that are the same or go down will decrease by 10%.
- How will we reach our goals:
- Teachers will continue professional development around the new SPPS literacy shifts within the Science of Reading
- Teachers will continue to implement daily small group reading instruction in collaboration with the WILL, SPED, and ELL teachers
- Teachers will receive professional development and implement new strategies through the University of Minnesota CAREIALL Training
Math Goal
- MCA III - The percentage of grades 3-5 students scoring proficient or higher in mathematics will increase by at least 5% points.
- Houghton-Mifflin-Harcourt Math Curriculum (HMH Math) - Our math curriculum has performance indicators that we use to make decisions 3 times per year. From the fall to the spring score we want 15% more students to score at or above grade level.
- How will we reach our goals:
- Teachers will become proficient in MN Math Standard alignment through professional development
- Teachers will use assessment data to provide individualized instruction to students
- Teachers will continue to implement SPPS math review and small group instruction
- Teachers will receive professional development and continue to implement the new HMH math curriculum
