Music
The mission of Music education in Saint Paul Public Schools is to engage all students in a culturally relevant, student-centered, and rigorously comprehensive music education, inspiring them to think critically, pursue their dreams, and change the world. Under SPPS's Well-Rounded Education (WRE), all elementary students explore music through performing, creating, responding, and connecting with various genres and cultures. Elementary students receive 50-90 minutes of music instruction per week. K-3 uses Seesaw, and grades 4-5 use Schoology for hands-on, iPad-enhanced lessons. We utilize Quaver Music, aligning our lessons with the Minnesota 2018 K-12 Academic Standards in the Arts. Minnesota Statutes 120B.021 mandate that public elementary schools offer at least three, and require at least two, of the following five arts areas, including music.
